iMac losing apps--what's going on?

At least a dozen apps on my iMac suddenly say "<appname> cannot be opened" and the normal icons are gone. Other applications are deleted completely. I did a First Aid and got the message that everything is OK on my disk.

I try to go to time machine to restore, but it won't open.

I've rebooted multiple times.

Help!
